Rousso, Harilyn. 2013. Don't call me inspirational: a disabled feminist talks back. Philadelphia: Temple University Press.
This is a series of essays on various topics, rather than a straight forward narrative. It touched me in a lot of ways. The author also has CP, although it looks a little different than my dance. I have also struggled to "out myself" as a disabled person. Even more so than the author, I sit in that gray area between disabled and "normal." My life has been enriched by being willing to "out myself." I've had fascinating conversations and met some extremely interesting conversations. Like the author, I too have experienced the progressive, disease like nature of cerebral palsy. Because her speech is affected, she feared losing her ability to talk. Around my house it's known as "This THING is trying to take my ability to walk away from me!" (Needless to say, I am not going quietly.) The author holds a mirror up to our humanity

Why three wheels? My name is Robin Brown. This is a picture of my "magic carpet." When I'm at work it's probably parked at the commuter rail station about a mile from my house. I get to ride three wheels because my right leg doesn't like to show up for work. I flunked riding two wheels. Archives
