Next project. Another bike race. That was fun.
It's been a really busy week, so I apologize that I haven't gotten back here with a report on Greta's Run. It was an absolutely amazing experience. The Run had a couple of different groups. I rolled with the wheelchair racers and the recumbent handcycles in the front of the race. That meant that I had the whole course in front of me and permission to fly!!! I completed 5K in about 17 minutes, and received a medal. Third place female within the wheelchair group. Next project. Another bike race. That was fun.

When I go to physical therapy, I get homework. I have tried going to PT and then getting bored with the homework after a couple of days. It doesn't work like that. Last summer I went to PT, and I do my PT exercises before my shower every morning. It has changed my life. (It's actually important to do them first, if I wait until after breakfast on the weekends, I'm less likely to do them.)
So I suggest. If you are fortunate enough to go see PT (or anybody else that gives exercises) try doing them. It's a game changer. It really does work. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/gretas-run-registration-31243534252I am going to have an amazing outing in 2 weeks. Tom is going to help me make the trip to Westfield, NJ to participate in Greta's Run. It's going to be amazing.
In the meantime the cold and wet weather has given me a cold. :-) This to shall pass. One of the things that I did recently for my library is work on getting a display together to support disabilities awareness month. This meant getting a recommended booklist from the disabled students club. I decided to start reading some of the books they recommended. So with a big shout out to Beyond the Limits, I really want to say how much I enjoyed The Running Dream by Wendelin Van Draanen.
Jessica is a track star and her high school. She finds running a deeply spiritual experience. Her pain runs very deep when her team bus is in an accident and she has the lower part of one of her legs amputated. She is able to run again because the track team decides to raise money to buy her a running prosthesis. This really reminds me of the profound importance of support from community and loving family. I ride because of the support I receive from T. I am very, very grateful. Where does my Gekko go, now that it has stopped raining? The Public Library. |
Why three wheels? My name is Robin Brown. This is a picture of my "magic carpet." When I'm at work it's probably parked at the commuter rail station about a mile from my house. I get to ride three wheels because my right leg doesn't like to show up for work. I flunked riding two wheels. Archives
